Under the so-called FIOP program (family of interoperable operational pictures), JFCOM was directed to incorporate the JTSTM into current systems, such as the Army's AFATDS fire-control system and the Naval Fire Control System.
This critic, who has worked for more than 20 years in military interoperabiity programs, said that projects such as the FIOP are based on "old fashioned thinking" about warfare, namely the notion that the "operational picture" should be divided into air, sea and ground.
The theme of our 2002 symposium, held on April 25th, was "FORCEnet, the Naval Complement of the FIOP -- Enabling the Joint Warfighter through Network Centric Warfare.
