With about 12 million containers entering the United States every year, a 1-percent false alarm rate would force agents to physically inspect more than 3,000 units per day. During the 1998 DARPA evaluation, detection results were combined with the total number of network sessions to give two summary measures of an IDS's performance: detection rate (intrusions detected divided by intrusions attempted) and false alarm rate (false alarms divided by total network sessions). I bet the false alarm rate will decrease in short order. |
