The contractile properties of the striated phasic adductor muscle measured in vitro are typical of a fast muscle, with speeds of contraction and tensions similar to those of vertebrate fast glycolytic fibers (Olson & Marsh 1993). A muscle is classified as slow oxidative (SO), fast oxidative glycolytic (FOG), or fast glycolytic (FG) based on the muscle fibers' histochemical reaction for myosin ATPase and their glycolytic and oxidative enzyme activity levels. |
