NYSE:BAY) today announced a range of new products to enhance its high end Backbone Node (BN(R)) router product line, including a Gigabit Ethernet Module and a next generation Power PC-based Fast Routing Engine (FRE(R)) processor which will increase the BN router's performance to more than 3 million packets per second.
In recent benchmark tests, Bay Networks' Wellfleet(r) Backbone Node (BN(TM)) router, utilizing the Fast Routing Engine (FRE) processor module, compressed 52 ports running at 128 Kbps each, resulting in a two-to-one ratio where the BN router achieved a 13 Mbps throughput.
