While I generally try not to over-identify with any wing in a fast-moving vehicle, I suspect that the libertarian future (if any) leans a bit to the left--toward networked voluntary collaboration on a grand scale. To leave Old Glory out all night may not be the proper thing to do, but to have her flying where she is ripped up by roofing shingles, shredded by the wind velocity caused by a fast-moving vehicle or printed on a T-shirt that will ultimately wind up in the ragbag is not my idea of showing patriotism. When you're riding a fast-moving vehicle like that, it can be reassuring to be able to see what the people behind the wheel are doing. |
