Pacific Crest said it will begin offering full-service checking accounts next year, will provide online banking services and become a member of the Federal Home Loan Bank System to expand the bank's funding flexibility. FHLBank Pittsburgh is one of twelve Banks in the Federal Home Loan Bank System, established by Congress in 1932 to support the residential mortgage activities of local financial institutions. The new regulator--the Chairman of the Federal Home Loan Bank System (FHLBS), who would be under the Secretary of the Treasury in the same relationship as the Comptroller of the Currency --should be more independent from the industry. |
