To screen for additional infections that might influence the health and immune status of the cats, we obtained 64 additional pharyngeal swabs on day 29 from cats with upper respiratory symptoms and tested them for nucleic acids specific for feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV-1)--and feline calicivirus (FCV). announced today that research has demonstrated that its VANTOCIL(TM) product, which has long been used as an ingredient in human hygiene disinfectant products in Europe, effectively controls Feline calicivirus (FCV), the globally accepted surrogate for Norovirus, which cannot be cultivated in vitro. The family Caliciviridae contains 4 genera, Sapovirus, Norovirus, Lagovirus, and Vesivirus, which include sapovirus (SaV), norovirus (NOV), rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus, and feline calicivirus strains, respectively. |
