As is now well known, female genital cutting is a coming-of-age ritual in some Islamic cultures.
In the Western world, Maasai female circumcision has become known as the Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) or Female Genital Cutting (FGC).
Female genital cutting is not commanded by the Qur'an and is not practiced by the majority of Muslims.
