The flexor digitorum superficialis, flexor digitorum profundus, flexor carpi ulnaris, and flexor carpi radialis muscles were injected with 150 units each at 1 site per muscle. Electromyography was used to measure the muscle activity of the flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) and extensor digitorum communis (EDC) muscles while subjects typed on keyboards with keys of varying stiffness. At the beginning of the eighth postoperative week, isolated blocking exercises are initiated to encourage active isolated PIP and DIP joint flexion of the involved digit(s), thus encouraging isolated motion of the flexor digitorum superficialis tendon and the flexor digitorum profundus tendon. |
