In a process known as fluorescence resonance energy transfer, when one protein becomes excited by light, it both emits blue light and transfers energy to the other protein, causing it to produce yellow light. After excitation by the light-emitting diode, a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) occurs from the donor dye to the acceptor dye, increasing the signal emitted by the acceptor dye (22). This adds flexibility to the assay by allowing techniques such as Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) to be used to obtain a wider range of information. |
