Chapters include questions and guidelines for assessing the extent of one's clutter, prayer points to help focus on God while de-cluttering, and practical advice for ending the clutter cycle--not only cleaning up, but taking measures to prevent clutter accumulation. Fasting, when it is done prayerfully and reflectively, can intensify one's focus on God and sharpen one's awareness of the needs of the poor and hungry. Yet, I believe that Judaism, Christianity and Islam all tend to run the risk of turning this concern away from being a path to redemption, and rather into a path toward damnation, when the focus on God moves the faithful away from its co-centrality with human freedom and responsibility. |
