FORMERLY USED DEFENSE SITES While many companies are taking advantage of environmental remediation companies to deal with their hazardous wastes, the military is taking the lead in cleaning up their own waste sites in the state.
Other military-funded work includes environmental missions, such as the clean up of formerly used defense sites, including a massive project at Waikoloa on the island of Hawaii; and real-estate work for the armed forces, such as administering leases for 34 recruiting stations in the Pacific.
These sites include ranges on closing military installations, closed ranges on active installations, and formerly used defense sites.
