Whatley also sits on Texas A&M University's Department of Accounting Advisory Board, the River Pointe Church Advisory Board and the Sugar Land Girls' Softball Association's Advisory Board, and has recently joined the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce.
He recently served on the boards of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, Inner City Youth, Unity National Bank, the Banneker-McNair Academy charter school and Texas Southern University's Renewable Energy and Environmental Protection Academy Verde, who resides in San Antonio, was appointed to the TG Board in 2005 by Governor Rick Perry.
