The AN/APQ-170 radar is a multimode, redundant, dual-band and forward-looking radar that integrates terrain-following and terrain-avoidance features, as well as ground-mapping, weather detection and avoidance, and beacon interrogation modes of operation.
Such microcircuits are essential, for example, to the operation of the electronic warfare arrays found on the F-22 Raptor, the Air Force's newest front-line fighter, and to the forward-looking radar on the recently approved Joint Strike Fighter.
TRW and Thomson-CSF of Paris formed a joint venture company, Autocruise, to develop, manufacture, and sell a 77 GHz forward-looking radar system to use in the TRW adaptive cruise control system.
