In the two years since it was launched, Free Radio Berkeley has increased its airtime from three hours a week to 24 hours a day, attracting about 40 volunteers and a growing listenership in the process. Working in California, Stephen Dunifer operates Free Radio Berkeley for three hours a week in which the programming ranges from debates on questions of First Amendment rights to airing taped discussions submitted by the public. If anything, Marston expected the Federal Communication Commission to try to shut down Radio Echo, just as it is asking a judge to silence Free Radio Berkeley in a case that bootleggers see as a test of their survival. |
