Brown wanted her son to sign up for a freshman interest group - aka FIG - because it seemed like the perfect way to make friends and connections on campus. The MUSE program does not fit into any of the traditional learning community structures such as freshman interest groups, learning clusters, or federated learning communities but is instead composed of small groups of 15 students or less and provides opportunities for student bonding and peer mentoring through workshops and the use of peer mentors.
