It is one of the four food safety standards now approved by the GFSI aimed at food manufacturers worldwide, Drawn up by an international Task Force comprising over 50 quality managers, the GFSI's criteria for benchmarking include full compliance with food safety management systems, good practices for agriculture, manufacturing and distribution as well as HACCP.
To date, food safety standards that qualify for GFSI certification include SQF (Safe Quality Food), BRC (British Retail Consortium), ISF (International Food Standard) and Dutch HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point).
GFSI audits are required and benchmarked by several major global retailers and manufacturers for the North American market.
