Among the many researchers intrigued by the GISP 2 cycle was Gerard Bond of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory in Palisades, N. GISP data for 2003 showed resistant isolates from Cleveland, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, and Kansas, with a significant increase in QRNG in Seattle, New York City, Massachusetts, California, and Michigan, and smaller increases in Phoenix, Minneapolis, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Portland (1). Measurements of oxygen isotopes in the GISP 2 ice indicate that the temperature at the summit of Greenland dropped 4oC for a century--a relatively short, but intense, climate shift, says Alley. |
