For some time now, Eichner and his colleagues at GSSI have been examining the roots of heat cramping in athletes. Based on prior research, GSSI found that a majority of elite athletes involved in stop-and-go sports such as basketball, football and soccer show up to practice and games already at or exceeding this level of dehydration. The comprehensive new effort by Gatorade and the three leagues will be supported by the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) and designed to educate basketball participants and fans on the link between hydration and performance based on continued research by GSSI. |
