Under the Scrappage scheme the GTD will cost pounds 20,450, while the quicker but thirstier GTi will start at pounds 21,015.
Not surprisingly, the GTD can't keep up with the GTI away from the traffic lights.
With huge amounts of mid-range acceleration the two-litre GTD pumps out 170bhp - not quite as punchy as the GTI but still enough to make it a real driver's machine.
