In addition, Hughes Training is providing software updates to the currently fielded GUARDFIST II forward observer trainers so they can become interoperable with the FSCATT training system. These devices -- which include a howitzer crew trainer, howitzer strap-on trainer, collective training control subsystem and GUARDFIST II -- will support realistic training under a full range of environmental conditions without the costly expenditure of ammunition and operation and maintenance of tactical equipment. GUARDFIST enables basic fire mission processing, but it lacks the ability to train close air support (CAS), has a marginal capability for training fires in urban terrain and does not have state-of-the-art technology and granularity. |
