Genetic characteristics of the virus that emerged in the Republic of the Congo--the smaller of the two nations called Congo--indicate that it arose from an earlier outbreak that killed people in adjacent Gabon, says Peter D. From December 2002 through August 2005, blood samples were collected from 245 horses in 13 riding stables located in Senegal (Dakar, n = 25), Cote d'Ivoire (Abidjan, n 95), Chad (N'Djamena, n = 30), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kinshasa, n = 20), Gabon (Libreville, Port Gentil, and Moanda, n = 64), and Djibouti (Djibouti, n = 11) (Figure 1). 1-4) and others in Cameroon and Gabon, it appears to us that many of the objects shown in Heidelberg are contemporary reproductions and therefore highly problematic to the trained eye. |
