In the northern Tanzanian town of Geita, up to as many as 150,000 of the 800,000 residents use this as a means of survival. A number of the 28 properties are located in the Victoria Lake Archean Greenstone belt, which currently hosts 52 million ounces of proven and probable gold reserves from active mining operations including Anglo Gold Ashanti's Geita and Barrick's Bulyanhulu mines. Tanzania Itilima properties totalling 65 square kilometers, are located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields on the same NW-SE trend as Bulyanhulu and Geita, and 20 km south of the Williamson Mwadui Diamond Mine. |
