Li said, "Some people become alcohol-dependent and then they recover because the environmental risks have been removed; there's a gene-environment interaction. SRI International, an independent nonprofit research and development organization, today announced that researchers in its new Molecular Genetics Program are characterizing gene-gene and gene-environment interactions that may provide clues for predisposition to tobacco dependence, response to treatment for nicotine addiction, and susceptibility for certain cancers. The conference was co-organized by Dinato Di Monte and Deborah Cory-Slechta and brought together an impressive assemblage of epidemiologists, geneticists, clinicians, and individuals from a variety of basic research disciplines; it is considered one of the most stimulating and productive scientific meetings on gene-environment interaction in Parkinson's disease. |
