Pollsters GEWIS quizzed 1,254 males and females aged between 16 and 60 for the survey -- although only those over 18 are entitled to vote.
GEWIS has been described as the cyber counter-part of the Terrorist Threat Integration Center, a storehouse of data contributed by police and intelligence agencies.
The results, from German research institute GEWIS for the woman's magazine Laura, said 92 per cent of the 1,030 women asked would rather go for their best friend than their husband if they were made to decide between the two.
