Members of Save our Scissett (SOS), a group formed to protect the rural village from development, say the habitat of the great crested newt is being destroyed on a patch of land set aside for 92 new houses.
Kate Surry, Flintshire County Council wildlife officer, said: "There is evidence 4x4s and scrambler bikes have been driving through breeding ponds for the great crested newt, which is a real concern.
The project will also create new high quality ponds and restore historic ponds to improve pond networks and support endangered species such as great crested newt and water vole.
