Baroness O'Neill, of the HGAC, said no individual will be forced to take the test against his or her wishes - and the information will be confidential, with no obligation to disclose results of previous tests. Last January, HGAC predicted that, in a matter of years, human embryo cloning would lead to novel treatments for a variety of injuries and diseases. Sir Colin Campbell, chairman of the HGAC defended the decision, saying "We believe it would not be right at this stage to rule out limited research which could be of great benefit to seriously- ill people. |
