James Heimbach, former associate administrator of the HNIS, American women "simply are not exposed to levels of methylmercury that would place the newborn children at risk.
Rather, an HNIS computer program calls up standard recipes for lasagna and then calculates how much pasta, tomato, and other foods went into the portion eaten.
Using USDA survey data collected in 1985 and 1986, HNIS researchers found that average intake of folacin for pregnant women age 19-39 years were higher than those of nonpregnant women--but not high enough to meet their RDA.
