These improved properties are believed to result from direct interaction between the styrenic moieties in the polymer backbone with a crosslinking agent added to vulcanize the halogenated butyl rubber.
These results are due to the exceptional air-retention properties of the DVA, which can be 7-10 times better than those obtained from conventional 100 phr halogenated butyl rubber (halobutyl rubber) liner compounds.
Halogenated butyl rubber, or halobutyl, demonstrates improved compatibility with general-purpose rubbers and is used primarily in tire innerliners.
