Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has proposed significant changes to its Hazard Communication Standard to make it consistent with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), which the United Nations adopted in 2003. There are, of course, a number of technical and administrative issues that need to be addressed to achieve harmonization, and TEI would be pleased to submit additional comments to the Committee, the Department of Finance, and the provincial governments about crafting a workable, harmonized system. OSHA is proposing to move forward with MSDS requirements under the UN's Globally Harmonized System, DOT has published actual proposed GHS rules, and EPA is holding a workshop on its intentions for pesticide labels. |
