Aspley Autoparts at Firth Street has applied for planning permission for flats with solar panels and heat recovery units.
The competition, which offers a heat recovery unit and a trip to the Geronimo energy conference in Barcelona in the autumn as prizes, was launched by the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers (RABDF).
They compared the energy efficiency of open-air systems with an afterburner to different air recycling systems with or without heat recovery units.
