Rats implanted with 20 WA pellets exhibited significant increases in white blood cell counts, red blood cell counts, hemoglobin, and hematocrit levels compared with Ta control rats, whereas rats implanted with 20 Ni pellets had significant decreases in red blood cell counts, hemoglobin, and hematocrit levels (Table 1).
Hematocrit measurements were used to determine the changes in plasma volume.
