based Hemp Industries Association estimates 2008 annual retail sales of all hemp products in North America to be about $360 million.
North America's hemp industry today is composed of basically two sets of interests: the hempsters, the visionaries who turned a cottage industry into a major business, and who have maintained a 300-member trade organization called the Hemp Industries Association (HIA); and the "hemp suits" a loose affiliation of bureaucrats, entrepreneurs, academics and farmers who plan to take the industry into the future.
