However, the experience with high dose therapy and bone marrow transplant, where insurance coverage was partially responsible for the rapid and uncontrolled diffusion of this technology outside of clinical trials, is a sobering testament to the influence of insurance coverage. But I believe there are some women with breast cancer for whom high dose therapy should be viewed as a reasonable treatment option.
