In 2007, the Hiroshima mayor appointed Leeper as the first non-Japanese head of the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, which administers a museum that explains the horror of the atomic bombing.
The 11,700-square-meter museum, which opened in 1955 in the Peace Memorial Park near ground zero of the atomic blast in downtown Hiroshima, is operated by the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, an affiliate of the Hiroshima city office.
