Though the British Medical Association, the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the Royal College of Nursing and the House of Commons science and technology committee all support the current 24-week limit, those in favour of the amendments argue that more babies now survive before 24 weeks.
The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee said that the centres, ranging from the Eden Project in Cornwall to The Deep ocean centre in Hull, Leicester's National Space Centre and Techniquest in Cardiff, were "an important part of the informal education sector" and contributed towards public understanding of science.
