To achieve the desired effects in certain areas, C/3-319 AFAR was given the remarkable mission of converting from an M119A2 105-mm howitzer battery into an M198 155-mm howitzer battery--combat ready. Among the portions of terrain where targets like a self-propelled howitzer battery cannot be located are lakes, swamps and the like (unless it is winter); tracts of dense and impenetrable woodland; portions of terrain under 400 X 400 meters in size; isolated portions of terrain that cannot accommodate two or three firing positions; steep mountain slopes of more than 30 degrees. The documents indicate that a self-propelled Howitzer battery, one engineer platoon, and two tactical air control parties form combat support units for the brigade. |
