Developing this capability to apply their learning appropriately through engagement in meaningful and relevant communication tasks makes the definition and differentiation between the language and culture components of the ICCLE particularly problematic.
The current ICCLE framework needs to more explicitly reflect contemporary understandings of and developments in language teaching and Chinese second language learning in order to contribute to the development of appropriate materials for schools.
These publications reflect a dynamic response to the particular, contemporary needs in school based second language education in general, and Chinese in particular, that is largely absent from the conceptualisation of curriculum outlined in the ICCLE.
