It should be noted, however, that many of the rights mentioned in the Principles are binding on the United States because the same concepts appear in the binding ICCPR and ICERD treaties. Yet the ICCPR not only doesn't mention abortion, it states: "Every human being has the inherent right to life. In addition to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ICCPR and its Second Optional Protocol, as well as the Rights of the Child Convention, there are over fifty resolutions abolishing the death penalty, which were adopted by the UN General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, and the Commission on Human Rights. |
