The Last Samurai Friday, ITV2, 9pm Tom Cruise plays a cynical US cavalry captain who turns mercenary when he is hired to train the Imperial Japanese Army in its war against Samurai warriors.
A former member of the Imperial Japanese Army found it in a bunker when he worked at a prisoner of war camp in the Philippines.
The slices of the novel that focus on this issue revolve around the tragic romance between two characters: Kkutaeh, a Korean comfort woman, and Franklin Hata, or Jiro Kurohata as he was known before immigrating to the United States, the narrator of the novel and a medic for the Imperial Japanese Army stationed in Burma during World War II.
