Cathodic protection can be obtained by an impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) of steel, where the negative pole of an external direct current source is coupled to the metal, while the positive pole is coupled to an auxiliary anode.
An Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) and Galvanic OP systems ensure the continued protection of areas where the polymer coating may be damaged or displaced, by causing the exposed steel to be cathodic due to the impressed current.
Applications include zinc and aluminum anodes for sacrificial and impressed current cathodic protection of reinforced concrete structures, as well as the application of metalized coatings of zinc and aluminum alloys for corrosion protection of steel exposed to marine, industrial and high temperature environments.
