Not surprisingly, Indian banks lend just 60 percent of deposits, compared to 83 percent for Thai banks, 90 percent for South Korean banks, and 130 percent for Chinese banks. The main objective of the loan programme is to help Indian banks develop lending portfolios targeted to solar home systems in poorly supplied regions of South India. The capital structure of Indian banks was also cause for concern with the net worth of the bank as low as 1-2% of their advances. |
