The Indus Water Treaty in 1960 spelt doom for the lake.
Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the back channel diplomacy with India started in the era of former President General Pervez Musharraf Replying to a question he said government is in contact with India on all outstanding issues including water adding water dispute with India must be solved through Indus Water Treaty.
According to Indus Water Treaty of 1960, India has been allotted exclusive control/right over the waters of the eastern rivers, namely; the Ravi, the Beas and the Sutlej.
