Introduction Respiratory infections are common in young people with Down syndrome and some other forms of intellectual disability (Baird and Sadovnik 1988, Friez et al 2006), accounting for a large proportion of the early mortality seen in these groups (Chaney and Eyman 2000, Yang et al 2002).
Her commitment and passion to enhance the lives of people living with intellectual disability led to her founding the Special Olympics which has grown from strength to strength over the last 40 years.
If we people without ID sometimes suffer when facing problems, imagine the case if it involves an intellectual disability.
