The GAO has long had a rigorous internal quality control program that annually reviewed a sample of work from every part of the agency for compliance with policies and procedures. Certainly the Times has taken a step in the right direction by engaging a public editor who, like The Washington Post's ombudsman, is charged with imposing a level of internal quality control on the paper. He heads the groups responsible for assuring that the firm's assurance-related guidance complies with professional standards, as well as the firm's global internal quality control function. |
