Nilsson s most famous role was that of Isolde in Richard Wagner s opera "Tristan und Isolde", with which she took La Scala by storm in 1956 and established her credentials as one of the 20th century s great Wagnerian sopranos.
Now, to celebrate their 10th anniversary, the orchestra are performing at the proms, with a programme that includes, Liszt's Les Preludes, the Prelude and Liebestod from Wagner's opera Tristan und Isolde and Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique.
