Japan's transport minister Tuesday urged struggling Japan Airlines to slash its pension payouts before seeking a public bailout as investors dumped JAL stock, sending its share price skidding.
Holding a stake in JAL ''no longer offers synergies'' to the businesses of Tokyu, a Tokyu executive said, as the conglomerate has been concentrating its management resources on its railway and real estate operations.
The US carrier is seeking to lure JAL away from the rival Oneworld airline grouping and American Airlines, which is also seeking a tie-up with JAL, eyeing its lucrative Asian landing slots.
