People forget there can be mitigating reasons for dropping down to junior grade.
Even so, the wide-smiling young Maeve was accepted into the new junior grade in 1962 and advanced through postings in New York, Bangkok, Bonn and Lagos, before joining the UK Mission to the UN in 1978.
Women have actually caught up in the middle and the junior grades, but I'm not so sure they have at senior and director level.
