Amid the latest hubbub over high-school dropouts, a reminder New Mexico legislators and educators shouldn't need: More than two decades' worth of research has made it resoundingly clear that a key to keeping kids in school is having schools worth staying in.
So programs aimed at this particular grade are popping up in hopes of keeping kids in school.
There is no sense in keeping kids in school past their learn-by date when they could be apprenticed to respectable trades or at least seeking other employment, and it is equally silly to inflate false confidence with phoney certificates so they scorn such work.
