Ground-based rockets that can take out orbiting assets or small killer satellites speeding through space to destroy larger platforms are more spectacular examples of war in the "ultimate high ground. That would be a killer satellite package, I would think. First tested in 1968 and operational since 1971, the Soviet killer satellite has been camouflaged by Soviet spokesmen ("We will never be the first to put weapons in space,' promised Andropov in 1983) and dismissed as virtually useless by American arms-control apologists. |
